Paver Operator Training Courses

Available training options: 
  • Novice operators 5-days training course.

Paver Operator Training course summary:
Instructions on the operations of the paver machine, the basic principles of laying tarmac and safety aspects of the correct operation of the paver machine.

This paver training course is carried out by one of our experienced instructors who is approved with one of the six most recognised bodies which is recognised by the HSE.

Paver Operator Training course content:
  • Pre-start checks.
  • Functional checks.
  • Safe operation of the pans and augers.
  • Provision and use of Work Equipment Regulations.
  • Health and Safety at Work Act.
  • Hazards.
  • Functional controls.
  • Safe operations of tampering.
  • Correct procedures when laying tarmacadam.
  • Safety positioning of the paver when being loaded by lorries.
  • Operating procedures using screwmen.
  • Manoeuvring procedures 
  • End of shift checks.
  • Trained operator theory test.

Minimum age for operating the paver machine:
  • To operate a paver machine on a site, the paver operator must be at least 18 years of age.
  • To operate a paver machine on a public highway, the paver operator must be at least 21 years of age, and must have a full driving license.
  • We check if the paver trainees are at a minimum age of 18 years of age.

Road Planer Training Courses

Qualification:
  • NPORS 
Road Planer Training course content:
  • Basic construction, names of components and the purpose and use of all controls and gauges.
  • Use of the operator’s handbook, etc.
  • Precautions and actions of hazards including overhead and below ground level services.
  • Pre-use running checks and close-down procedure.
  • Preparing the road planer for site travel.
  • Travelling the road planer over different terrain, including rough, undulating ground.
  • Travelling up and down substantial inclines.
  • Manoeuvring progressing to confined spaces in a forward and reverse direction.
  • Positioning the road planer for planing the various surfaces.
  • Placing the road planer in an out-of-service condition.
  • Positioning the Elevator

Qualification:
  • NPORS 
Road Roller Training course content:
  • Basic construction, names of components and the purpose and use of all controls and gauges.
  • Procedures for dead weight rolling and vibration compacting.
  • Use of the operator’s handbook, etc.
  • Pre-use, start, running checks and close-down procedure.
  • Preparing the roller for site and road travel.
  • Travelling the roller over differing types of terrain, including, undulating ground.
  • Manoeuvring, progressing to confined spaces in a forward and reverse direction and identification of conditions that will make the roller unstable.
  • How to set the roller for compaction duties, including preparing an area prior to. compaction, markings, barriers, signs and traffic management.
  • Characteristics of materials and how to compact them, including recognising compact and uncompact areas.
  • How to safely compact up to supported and unsupported edges, around radii and obstructions and on inclines.
  • Placing the roller in an out-of-service condition.
  • Trained operator theory test.

Asphalt Reinstatement Training course content:
  • Anti-skid surfacing
  • Health and Safety legislation.
  • Hauc specification.
  • Reinstatement footway and carriageway.
  • Identifying the various types of tarmacadam material to use.
  • Depth of laying the material as per the road and footway specification.
  • Correct use of the loot and rake.
  • Correct compacting procedure on both base course and wearing course.
